PAINESVILLE, OHIO – Lake Erie College earned 20 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors for the outdoor season in an announcement made today (May 17). The awards are spread among 11 Storm athletes, four females and seven males, with eight individual awards and 12 as part of relay teams.
The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three received the award. A total of 1,250 athletes receive 1,838 all-region nods in the inaugural outdoor USTFCCCA class in Division II.
On the men's side, sophomore Chris Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) led the way with five awards, as many as any other male in Division II. Burrows qualified in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and a pair of relays.
Other individuals on the men's side were sophomores Quinton Harley (Rochester, N.Y/Edison Tech) and Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) in the 400 meter hurdles and freshman Jami Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) in the high jump.
On the women's side, sophomores Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) took individual honors in the long jump and 100 meter hurdles.
Three relays also qualified in the top three in the region. The men's 4x100 meter squad (Burrows, Harley, and sophomores Joe Lockard (Columbus, Ohio/Circleville) and Cameron Whitner (Westerville, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty)), men's 4x400 meter relay (Burrows, Harley, Ethan Snyder and sophomore Issac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail)) and the women's 4x100 meter team (Bednar, Boyd and sophomores Kaitlyn Holland (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) and Whitney Johnson (Oakwood Village, Ohio/Bedford)) each took regional awards.
The men's squad fell three spots in the latest USTFCCCA rankings to 17th in the country.
The Storm will be taking a contingent of athletes to the NCAA Division II National Championship in Turlock, Calif. beginning on May 26.
