PAINESVILLE, OHIO – The Lake Erie College track and field teams open their 2011-12 season on Thursday, Dec. 1, with an indoor dual meet with Seton Hill University at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
Both teams are coming off their best seasons to date in 2010-11. The Storm men finished 14th at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships after placing 16th at the Indoor meet. Lake Erie also finished fifth during both seasons at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet. The Storm women also had respectable conference showings, highlighted by a GLIAC championship in the 4x100-meter relay, and earned Academic All-American team honors for the second straight year.
Three All-Americans and four national qualifiers are back for the Storm men. Leading the way are juniors Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail), Isaac Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) and Eric Klucar (Medina, Ohio/Highland). Isaac Snyder (heptathlon) and Klucar (pole vault) were both national qualifiers for the 2011 indoor championships along with sophomore high jumper Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon). Dudley will miss the early portion of the indoor season while playing basketball for the Storm.
The Lake Erie women return a veteran team led by junior All-GLIAC performers Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Andrea Boyd (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford).
Additionally, there are several new faces that will be expected to step in and contribute right away. The Storm's recruiting class features eight men and seven women looking to make an impact.
Following this week's dual meet, the Storm will head to Kent State University Dec. 9-10 for the Golden Flash Gala.
