NEW ORLEANDS, LA. – The Lake Erie College men's track and field team cracked the national computer rankings for the first time this season, checking in at number 23 on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II National Indoor Computer Team Rankings released Tuesday (Feb 19).
The Storm just missed out being listed in the top 25 a week ago, coming in at 26th in the Feb. 12 rankings. Lake Erie entered the season ranked 29th based on last season's performance.
This is the first time the Storm men have been ranked in the top 25 since Jan. 31, 2012 and is the eighth time Lake Erie has been listed among the nation's best since the computer rankings were instituted in 2010. The team's highest ranking was 11th in the 2012 preseason poll.
Lake Erie is one of four ranked teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) heading into this weekend's GLIAC Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24.
The National Computer Team Rankings project how a team will finish in a National Championship Meet setting, rather than a triangular or dual. The rankings are compiled from meet data in the 2012-13 season.
