WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --  A couple of school records and NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks highlighted the first day of competition at the Wake Forest University Open for the Lake Erie College track and field teams Friday (March 15).

Redshirt freshman Sean Stone (Newton Falls, Ohio/Southeast) had a big day in the hammer throw, topping out at 186' 3" (56.77 meters), over 2.5 meters past the provisional mark and well ahead of the previous school record. He placed fifth overall in the event.

Fresh off a fourth-place finish at the indoor national meet, sophomore Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) won the triple jump with a leap of 49' 1" (14.96) in his outdoor season debut.  That provisional mark tied his personal best and school record in the event.

Other top finishes included freshman Keith Hemphill (Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic), who took third in the 400-meter dash (48.24 seconds), and senior Craig Gerber (Fremont, Ohio/Clyde) was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:03.65). Freshman Shavon Thompson (St. Andrew, Jamaica/Ardenne) ran 10.79 in the 100-meter dash to place eighth.
