Dudley Clinches Return Trip to Nationals, Storm Impressive at Two Meets Saturday

FAIRFAX, VA. – Junior All-American Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) will defend his national championship after earning automatic qualification for the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships Saturday (April 14) at the George Mason University Spring Invitational.

Meanwhile, 187 miles north, freshman Nick Hall (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) and redshirt junior Cody Lancaster (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) had record runs at the Bucknell University Bison Classic to highlight the Lake Erie College track and field teams' strong two-meet showing.

Dudley won the high jump, clearing the bar at 2.20 meters (7' 2 ¼"), well over the NCAA automatic mark of 2.17 and earning him his third trip to the national outdoor meet. 

Sophomore All-American Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) strengthened his bid to join Dudley at a second straight national championship meet with a school-record leap of 15.13 meters (49' 7 ¾") in the triple jump, placing him fifth. 

Freshman Keith Hemphill (Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) also hit a provisional qualifying mark in the 400 meters with a time of 47.87 seconds, placing fifth.  Right behind him was redshirt junior All-American Ethan snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) in seventh with a time of 48.45.

Redshirt freshman Sean Stone (Newton Falls, Ohio/Southeast) took fourth in the hammer throw at 54.21 meters while the 4x400-meter and 4x100-meter relay teams took fourth (3:21.45) and fifth place (42.43), respectively.

The Storm women had six top-10 finishes led by sophomore Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls), who tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters (5' 5 ¼"). Freshman Kady Held (Massilon, Ohio/Tuslaw) was eighth in the discus throw (41.28 meters) while senior Colleen Bednar (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) was ninth in the long jump (5.40 meters). Sophomore Ariana Jorgensen (Kleinburg, Ont./Emily Carr Secondary) also finished ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.59 seconds.

Freshman Alicia Arnold (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) was 10th in the 200-meter dash in 24.75 seconds and teamed with Bednar, Jorgensen and freshman Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio/Miami Valley) for a season-best time in the 4x100-meter relay of 48.55 seconds, finishing eighth.

In addition, junior Shanita Fluker (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) set a school record in the 400-meters, crossing the finish line in 59.05 seconds.

At Bucknell, Hall ran 3:58.60 in the 1,500-meters, becoming the first Storm runner to break the four-minute mark.  Lancaster, meanwhile, bettered his own school record in the 10,000-meters, posting a time of 32:09.56.

The teams are currently scheduled to compete at the Jesse Owens Classic next Saturday, April 20, at Ohio State University.
