YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College track and field team had a solid showing at the Youngstown State University Friday (Jan. 24).
The Storm men entered the event ranked 22nd in the lastest USTFCCA rankings and are the fourth highest ranked Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) school.
Joe Postwaite (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) took first-place in both the high jump and the triple jump to lead the Storm men.
In the men's high jump, the Storm swept the top-three position. Postwaite took first with a jump of 2.12m, the third highest in the country and a national provisional mark. Jamil Dudley (Massillon, Ohio/Massillon) took second-place with a jump of 2.09m, also a provisional mark, while JoCari Beattie (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) took third with a provisional jump and personal best of 2.06m.
Postwaite captured first-place in the triple jump by over five feet, jumping provisional cut 15.37m, the second longest jump in the country this season and a new facility record. Colonel Fakorode took fifth in the triple jump at 13.83m.
Ethan Snyder (Salesville, Ohio/Buckeye Trail) took second-place in the 60m hurdles with a school record and provisional cut time of 8.19 seconds. He also took second in the 400m with a provisional mark of 48.46 seconds. Keith Hemphill (Warrensville Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) placed sixth in the 400 with a time of 49.41.
Jarrod Edwards (Riverview, Fla./Riverview) took fifth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.06 seconds. Alex Jolly took ninth in the long jump with a jump of 6.35m. Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio/Stow) took 17th in the mile with a time of 4:26.03. Jimmy Ritt (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) took 11th in the weight throw with a personal best 15.69m.
Ariana Jorgensen (Kleinburg, Ontario/Emily Carr Secondary) took first-place and hit a national provisional mark in the 60m hurdles with a school record 8.78.
Danielle Martin (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) took fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.82 seconds.
Destiny Prusky (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) also had a fourth place finish, jumping 1.65m in the high jump.
Kaitlyn Menges (New Phildadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 12.67m.
"We are slowly starting to put some things together, but we still have a lot of work to do" said Head Coach Ryan Rademacher. "The leadership on the team is one of a kind and I am extremely excited for this season to continue!"
The Storm is back in action Friday (Jan. 31), participating in the SPIRE Midwest Open held in Geneva, Ohio.
