FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team opened their 2016-17 campaign today as they competed at the Oiler Open. Head coach Grant Lofdahl said " We had a lot of good efforts today from both the men and women".
The Storm men were led by their team performance in the mile. The Storm took the top four spots in that event. Jordan Pritchard (Painesville, Ohio / Lake Catholic) won the mile for Lake Erie with a time of 4:21.96 minutes. D.J. Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove), Austin Jones (Botkins, Ohio / Botkins), and George Lesnak (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood) took second, third , and fourth in the mile respectively. In addition to placing second in the mile Graham won the 800 meter dash in a time of 2:01.96 minutes.
The Storm women were led Simone Green (Akron, Ohio / Buchtel) as she crossed the line in a time of 59.30 seconds, which earned her first place honors in the 400 meter dash. The 4x400 meter relay team of Hailey Vanhoy (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva), Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen), Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker), and Green took fourth place as they ran a time of 4:17.23 minutes. Lee also took fourth in the long jump clearing a distance of 17 feet nine inches.
Coach Lofdahl said "the men's mile performance was the highlight of the day". "We will rest up and train hard over the holiday break and get some of the injured athletes back. I am excited to see where the season takes us" said coach Lofdahl.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (Jan. 14) when they return to Findlay to compete in the Northwest Ohio Classic.
