Hillsdale, Mich. – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they wrapped up their competition at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic.
The Storm women were led by Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker) as she hit a qualifying mark in the triple jump as she cleared a distance of 38 feet 4.25 inches. Danielle Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Walnut Grove (Ga.)) had a personal best in the triple jump as she cleared a distance of 37 feet, which earned her seventh place honors. Haley Menix (Alexandria, Ohio / Northridge) added to a solid triple jump performance as she cleared 10 meters for the first time in her career.
Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "Nadia hit a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump, and Danielle beat her triple jump PR (which was a 7th-place effort at last year's GLIAC Championships), so that was a definite high point of the weekend. Haley Menix also had a triple jump PR and went over 10 meters for the first time".
The Storm men were led by Austin Jones (Botkins, Ohio / Botkins) as he took first in his heat for the mile, crossing the line in a time of 4:38.42 minutes, which is a new personal best. George Lesnak (Mantua, Ohio / Crestwood) also had a personal best in the mile as he crossed the line with a time of 4:39.40 minutes, which was a second place finish in his heat.
Coach Lofdahl said "Austin Jones and George Lesnak raced aggressively in the mile and finished first and second in their heat, both with indoor PRs. With our top distance runners not competing this week, it was great to see those guys step up".
Coach Lofdahl added "Overall, I'd say this was the best meet we've had this season in terms of competing hard, staying focused, and coming out of the weekend healthy.
Lake Erie will return to the track when they travel to compete in the Big Meet at Grand Valley St.
