ASHLAND, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed in the Alumni Open at Ashland University. The meet had four field events cancelled due to weather.
Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "Saturday was a challenge for sure with lightning delays and less-than-ideal weather all day long. We fought through it for the most part, and did some good things".
The Storm women were led by the relay team of Caprece Conrad (Akron, Ohio / Woodridge), Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker), McKenzie Patton (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontane), and Simone Green (Akron, Ohio / Buchtel) as they took third place in 4x100 relay with a time of 48.60 seconds. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) as she had a personal best in the Javelin, throwing a distance of 29.70 meters (97 feet 5.25 inches), which earned her seventh place honors. "Hailey Nielsen had a nice PR in the javelin, and our relay teams ran hard despite the wind and rain" said Coach Lofdahl.
The Storm men were led by Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) as he took first place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:00.30 minutes.
DJ Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove) ran at the Gina Relays last night. Graham ran in the steeplechase as he set a school record with a time of 9:13.00 minutes, which is also a NCAA qualifying mark.
Coach Lofdahl added ""DJ had a really strong race in the steeplechase on Friday. He's only run it twice now -- the first time he set a school record and this time he chopped 13 seconds off that and hit a provisional mark".
Lake Erie will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
