PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team will be in action Wednesday (May 3) thru Friday (May 5) as they travel to compete in the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "We're very excited about our final GLIAC Championship meet. Grand Valley State has a great facility, and we are peaking at the right time".
Storm Report: The Storm is coming off a weekend in which they competed at the Alumni Open. The Storm was led by DJ Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove) as he won the steeplechase in a time of 9:13.00 minutes, which set a school record and an NCAA qualifying mark. Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) also won for the men as he took first place in the 1500 meter, crossing the finish line in a time of 4:00.30 minutes. The women were led by a third place finish in the 4x100 relay, and Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) who had a personal best in the Javelin.
Coach Lofdahl added "Men's track events and women's field events are where we're the strongest and where we hope to score a lot of points. Of course qualifying for nationals is always in the back our minds, and the GLIAC provides you with more than enough competition to perform at your best. The main goals for us this week, though, are to fight for every place and score as many points as we can. This will be one of the most competitive conference meets ever contested in D2, so we're looking forward to it".
Forecast: Lake Erie will return to the track at the end of May to compete at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in Bradenton, Florida.
