ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today (May 5) as they wrapped up their competition at the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Head Coach Grant Lofdahl said "We had a great meet as a whole, as we had five school records on the weekend".
The Storm women were led by Nadia Lee (Tucker, Ga. / Tucker) as she took first place in the triple jump as she cleared a distance of 12.40 meters (40 feet 8 inches). The winning jump for Lee set a school record. Danielle Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Walnut Grove (Ga.) cleared a distance of 12.25 meters (40 feet 2.25 inch) in the triple jump to take second place honors. Simone Green (Akron, Ohio / Buchtel) gave the Storm a strong performance in the 100 meter dash as she took fourth place in a time of 12.03 seconds, which is a school record. The Storm 4x100 relay team of Caprece Conrad (Akron, Ohio / Woodridge), Lee, McKenzie Patton (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontane), and Green placed seventh in the relay as they crossed the line in a time of 48.69 seconds. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) was named freshman field athlete of the meet, as she was the only underclassman in the top eight of the heptathlon.
Coach Lofdahl said "The biggest highlight was Nadia and Danielle going 1-2 in triple jump. Nadia has been GLIAC runner-up five times in her career, and winning in her last conference meet was special. Simone had an awesome day, setting a school record and taking fourth in the 100 when she came in seeded 15th."
The Storm men were led by Vincent Horning (Stow, Ohio / Stow) as he crossed the finish line in a time of 3:58.52 minutes which earned him fourth place honors in the 1500 meters. Christopher Vogel (Kirchberg, Germany / Sportgymnasium Chemnitz) added to the Storm's solid day as he took fourth in the triple jump clearing a distance of 14.43 meters (47 feet inches). The 4x100 meter relay team of Torrez Edwards (Warrensville, Ohio / Warrensville Heights), Shavon Thompson (St. Andrew, Jamaica / Ardenne), Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead), and Andre Husain Jr. (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Holy Name) ran a time of 42.74 seconds to take sixth place honors in the 4x100 meter relay. DJ Graham (Gomer, Ohio / Columbus Grove) concluded the Storm weekend with a seventh place finish in the 5000 meters in a time of 14:51.15 which is a school record.
Coach Lofdahl added, "Our 4x100 relays also took 7th and 6th, both improving on their seeds. Chris and Vince had excellent efforts to place 4th in triple jump and the 1500, and DJ scored our final two points with another school record in the 5K".
