Storm Competes at Collegiate Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The Lake Erie College indoor track and field team was in action Saturday (Jan. 20) when they traveled to compete in the Collegiate Challenge at the University of Indianapolis.

Head Coach Giles Davis said, "This meet was encouraging.  We will continue to improve upon our technique and execution, but I am excited about how the group competed today."

The Storm women were led by Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) as she took fourth place in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.55 meters or five feet one inch.  Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) had a strong performance in the 60 meter hurdles as she took fifth in a time of 9.62 seconds.  Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron HS) and Catherine Beisel (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) each won their heats in the finals of the women's mile, and finished 12th and 13th respectively.  Hailey Vanhoy (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) won her heat in the finals of the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:52.82 minutes, and placed 15th overall in the event. 

The Storm men were led by Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead) as he took second place in the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 51.27 seconds.  Logan Ebersole (Chesterville, Ohio / Highland) won his heat of the men's 3000 meters and finished in 17th place in the finals with a time of 9:30.30 minutes.  Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) also won his heat in the 3000 meters and took 19th in the finals with a time of 9:36.62 minutes.  Evan Loughman (Sheridan, Ohio / Sheridan) took seventh place in the men's shot put as he threw a distance of 14.48 meters or 47 feet six inches. 

Lake Erie will return to the track when Friday (Jan. 26) when they compete at the Midwest Open at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
