TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed at the Tiffin Dragon Invitational.
Head Coach Giles Davis said, "Times and distances will come, but I am happy with how the group competed and dealt with adversity through the competition."
The Storm men were led by Evan Loughman (Sheridan, Ohio / Sheridan) as he set a school record in the shot put as he threw a distance of 14.85 meters or 48 feet 8.25 inches. Montrell Devaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinely) won the 400 meter dash as he broke the tape in 51.16 seconds and earned first place honors. The men's 4x400 relay team of Devaugh, Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead), Tareeq Welch (Tampa, Florida / Armwood), and Konnell Woods (Addison, Texas / Greenhill School) took fourth place as they crossed the line in a time of 3:36.95 minutes. Elson added a seventh place finish in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.16 seconds.
The women were led by Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) as she took second place in the long jump clearing a distance of 5.31 meters or 17 feet five inches. Luca Hartman (Bonnievale, South Africa / Hcei Meisieskod Bloemhof) took fourth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.08 minutes. Hailey Vanhoy (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) added a strong finish in the 800 meters as she took fourth in her heat, and fifth overall in a time of 2:32 minutes. Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron HS) placed sixth in the 3000 meters with a time of 11:25.33 minutes.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (Feb. 17) when they travel to compete in the Mount Union Tune Up.
