BEREA, Ohio – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed in the Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin Wallace University.
The Storm men were led by Brandon Bryan (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) as he won the 3,000 meter steeplechase breaking the tape in a time of 10:27.47 minutes. Montrel Devaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinely) placed third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.14 seconds. Tareeq Welch (Tampa, Florida / Armwood) earned a fourth place finish in the long jump as he cleared a distance of 6.15 meters. Xavier Kibet (Nakuru, Kenya / Baringo) added to the men's performance as he placed fifth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:09.59 minutes.
The Storm women were led by Gina Henley (Akron, New York / Akron HS) as she won the 3,000 meter steeplechase, as she broke the tape in a time of 12:18.43 minutes. Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) earned a second placed finish in the 100 meter hurdles, as she crossed the finish line in a time of 15.56 seconds. Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) finished close behind Moeller in the 100 meter hurdles, as she placed fourth in a time of 15.90 seconds. Luca Hartman (Bonnievale, South Africa / Hcei Meisieskod Bloemhof) added a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash as she crossed the line in a time of 12.78 seconds. Hartman continued her strong performance as she placed sixth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.56 seconds.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (April 28) when they compete in the Alumni Open at Ashland University.
