HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College track and field team was in action today as they competed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.
The Storm women were led by Hailey Nielsen (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) as she won the heptathlon. Nielsen won the javelin as she threw a distance of 33.63 meters or 110 feet four inches. Nielsen also won the 200 meter dash in the heptathlon to propel her to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship. Madyson Plante (Marlborough, Mass. / Marlborough) added to the Storm's performance as she placed third in the heptathlon. Plante was propelled to her third place finish when she placed second in both the high jump and shot put. Johanna Moeller (Bochum, Germany / Schiller-Schule Gymnasium Furjungen Und Madchen) earned seventh in the 100 meter hurdle prelims, which qualifies her for the finals, which will take place tomorrow.
The Storm men were led by Montrell Devaughn (Canton, Ohio / Canton McKinely) and Joseph Elson (Mount Gilead, Ohio / Mount Gilead) as they placed third and fifth respectively, to qualify for the finals in the 400 meter dash. Devaughn and Elson each qualified for the 200 meter finals as they finished the prelims in times of 22.06 seconds, and 22.51 seconds respectively.
Lake Erie will return to the track Saturday (May 5) when they wrap up their competition at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships.
