(YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio) - The Lake Erie men's and women's indoor track and field team opened the 2019 campaign at the YSU Icebreaker held at the Watson and Tressel Training Site on the campus of Youngstown State on Friday afternoon.
The YSU Icebreaker featured 24 different teams, competing in 21 events. 10 Storm athletes competed in six different competitions.
Sophomore Dominic DiFranco highlighted the Storm in the weighted throw competition. DiFranco finished in the top 10 with his 15.06m throw. Freshman Thomas Scheetz also competed in the event and finished with a 12.93m toss. Dylan Conant finished right behind Scheetz with a throw measuring 12.89m.
After competing in the weighted throws Driss posted a top 25 finish with a 10.78m toss in the shot put. On the men's side of the event, freshman Kendrick Scott and senior Dylan Conant both finished in the top 25 throwing 12.89m and 11.90m respectively.
The Storm finished the Icebreaker competing in both the men's and women's 200-meter races. Joseph Elson Jr. finished the race at 23.19 and team member Dominic Jones finished with a time of 23.44. For the women's competition, junior Luca Hartman finished the 200 meters with a time of 26.75 and in the last heat of the day, Johanna Moeller crossed at 27.64.
The men's and women's indoor track team will now prepare for the Tiffin Dragon Open hosted by Tiffin University on Saturday, Jan. 18.
