PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Senior guard Renese Ames (Bedford, Ohio/Bedford) was named the East Coast Athletic Conference Division II Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31 after reaching the 1,000 career point mark in an 84-53 win over Ohio Dominican on Saturday (Jan. 30). Ames averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Storm's 2-0 week that also featured an 80-66 win at Seton Hill on Jan. 26. She tallied a season-high 20 points in that game before dropping 19 points and corralling nine rebounds on Saturday, just missing her second double-double of the season. Ames also made three steals in each game.
With her first seven points on Saturday, Ames became just the fifth player in Lake Erie College history to reach the 1,000-point mark.
The Storm, in just its second season at the Division II level, is currently riding an eight-game winning streak and reached 16 wins on Saturday. Both of those marks match program-highs established in 2007-08.
The 5-foot-5 guard is third on the team in scoring (12.8) and rebounding (4.2) and is tied for the team lead in steals (47). Her 15.1 points per game during the current eight-game romp leads the team.
Fans can help Lake Erie College as it will be "Taking Cancer by Storm" on Saturday (Feb. 6) during the basketball doubleheader against Central State, beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free to the games and fans are encouraged to join the Storm and wear pink to the Jerome T.
