PAINESVILLE, OHIO -- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team opens the 2010-11 season Monday night (Nov. 15) with a nonconference game against traditional regional rival Ursuline College at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic & Wellness Center. This is the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Ursuline holding a 6-4 edge. The Storm won 91-60 last season here at home (Jan. 12), snapping a five-game Arrows series winning streak.
A LOOK BACK: The Storm won a school single-season record 18 games last year and finished 18-9 overall and ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Region. The team was voted the top Independent Team in Division II with Head Coach Bob Booher named Independent Coach of the Year and then juniors Alyssa Wagers, Jen Caiola and Stephanie Rogers all earning All-Independent honors.
PRESEASON PREDICTIONS: Lake Erie was tabbed to finish fifth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division in the league's preseason media poll while junior forward Jen Caiola was a second-team Preseason All-GLIAC South Division pick.
THE OPPOSITION POSITION: The Arrows have lost two straight and are 1-3 on the young season. Ursuline lost at Houghton College on Saturday, 76-71. Despite the loss, Laura Campbell had 17 points off the bench for the Arrows. Jaylene Taylor, who led Ursuline in scoring in each of the first three games, had 14 points and seven rebounds.
HOME SWEET HOME: Lake Erie has won six straight here at the Osborne Center.
