LAKE ERIE LOOKS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT GLIAC WIN ON THE ROAD: Coming off a successful conference debut Thursday night, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team looks to make a sweep of its GLIAC opening road trip Saturday afternoon (Dec. 4) at Hillsdale College. The Storm (2-2, 1-0) and Chargers (5-1, 0-1) tip-off at 3 p.m. in Phillips Arena (4,500 capacity).
LIGHTNING QUICK RECAP: The Storm scored the final nine points to defeat host Wayne State University, 78-72, in its GLIAC opener in Detrioit. Juniors Stephanie Rogers and Jen Caiola both scored over 20 points and combined for 16 rebounds in the win.
OPPOSITON POSITION: Hillsdale opened its season with five straight victories before a 75-56 setback to Ashland University in its GLIAC opener at home Thursday. The Chargers return four starters from a team that finished second in the GLIAC South a year ago (14-13
STUFFING THE STAT SHEET: Junior center Stephanie Rogers is off to a fantastic start to the season, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, steals and field goal percentage. Thursday night at Wayne State she nearly recorded a triple double, scoring 25 points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking a career-high eight shots. She also had four steals in the win. Rogers recorded her 10th career double-double in the opener against Ursuline (16 points, 12 rebounds) and has led the Storm in scoring in two straight games.
ROARING TWENTY: Junior Jen Caiola scored 22 points at Wayne State Thursday, marking the second time this season and the seventh time in her career she has reached or surpassed the 20-point mark. The Storm is 5-2 in those games, including a 1-1 record this season. The 25 points by Stephanie Rogers against the Warriors was her first 20-point game of the season and the fifth of her career (LEC record: 3-2).
