THE GAME: Lake Erie travels to the Ohio-West Virginia border (near Marietta, Ohio) looking to remain unbeaten on the season. LEC opened its 2013-14 campaign with two impressive victories in the GLIAC-GMAC Challenge, hosted by Davis & Elkins (W. Va.) on Nov. 8-9. Bracketing those two contests, the Storm also played two exhibition games against NCAA-I foes. ... LEC stormed the box score with 98 points -- the program's most in four years -- in its last regular-season game (98-85, at Davis & Elkins-Nov. 9). Junior G JACKIE MURRAY poured in 23 points to lead a quartet of Storm player scoring in double figures. Murray was dialed in from distance, tying an LEC single-game record with seven 3-pointers. ... The Nov. 9 win came just one day after the team won a low-scoring (57-33) season opener against Alderson-Broaddus (Nov. 8). ... Overall defense and rebounding have been the common threads in Lake Erie's twin victories. LEC outrebounded ABU by 13 and DEC by nine. The Storm held the two opponents to a combined 33-percent (34-of-103) mark from the field.
THE SERIES: Thursday's game will mark the first between Lake Erie and Ohio Valley. Since 2008, the Storm is 6-5 against West Virgina foes.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS: Ohio Valley heads into Thursday's 6 p.m. tilt off back-to-back losses. Those two games were in a Florida road swing: the Fighting Scots lost at Pensacola Christian on Nov. 15 and at West Florida on Nov. 16. ... OVU's lone win this season (115-71 over Penn State-Beaver) came in a home game on Nov. 9. The Fighting Scots are 1-1 at home thus far. OVU went 2-25 overall last season (2-12 at home). In 2012-13, Ohio Valley averaged 61.7 points per game, yielding 77.7. (OVU's defensive total ranked 279th-of-285 in DII women's hoops.) ... Two seniors -- G SHELBY WAY (12.0 PPG) and F KAYLA PARSLEY (10.5) -- are OVU's top returning scorers from last year's squad. Parsley led the Fighting Scots in rebounding last year with 9.7 rebounds per game (third in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
