PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team defeated Ursuline today (November 26th), 84-77. With the win the Storm improve to 3-1 overall and with the loss the Arrows fall to 0-5.
The game started as a back and forth battle until Ursuline went on a 10-0 run that started with 13:20 to go in the first half. The run was ended when freshman forward Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) made a pair of foul shots to make the score 23-13 in favor of the Arrows. The Storm narrowed the lead to eight at halftime, 40-32 in favor of Ursuline.
In the second half the Storm went on a 15-0 run that started at the 13:16 mark and lasted for five minutes and gave the Storm a 61-51 advantage. The run was started by a layup by junior center Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) off of an offensive rebound and an assist by senior Chloe Irish (LaGrange, Ohio / Keystone).
The run was highlighted by a three pointer by sophomore guard Daija Jones (Cleveland, Ohio / St. Joseph Academy) off of an assist by Gabor.
The Storm finished off the game on the foul line and won the game by seven with the final score, 84-77.
Skelton led Lake Erie in points with 16, and Gabor added 15. Junior guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton), and Jones each scored 14 points for the Storm. Irish led the way for the Storm in assists and rebounds with five and seven respectively.
The Storm only had six turnovers which is the second lowest in school history.
Lake Erie will be back in action when they host Mansfield on Saturday (November 29th) at 3 P.M.
