MARQUETTE, Mich – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was defeated today (January 10th) by Northern Michigan, 72-47. With the loss the Storm fall to 7-7 overall and 2-6 in the conference, and with the win the Wildcats improve to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Northern Michigan opened the game on a 17-2 run that lasted for the first nine minutes of the game. The run was ended when freshman guard Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) hit a three pointer to make the score 17-5. The Storm traded baskets with the Wildcats for six minutes to make the score 35-14 in favor of Northern Michigan with 4:49 remaining in the first half. The Storm ended the first half down by 20, 41-21. Junior guard Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) led the way for the Storm with 10 points in the half.
The second half started with both teams trading baskets through the first media timeout, with the score 51-28, in favor of the Wildcats. After the timeout the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run that stretched the lead to 27 points, 55-28. The run was ended by a Narducci steal and fast break layup. The game ended in a 25 point victory for Northern Michigan, 72-47.
The Storm were led by Narducci who came off the bench and had 19 points, on 7-8 shooting from the field, four assists, and two steals. Gabor also had 12 points, two rebounds, and an assist. Junior guard Shelby Carpenter (Dayton, Ohio / Miami Valley) added six points and four rebounds for the Storm.
Lake Erie will be back in action Thursday (January 15th) when they travel to take on Malone at 6 P.M.
