PAINESVILLE, Ohio-- The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was unable to overcome Ohio Dominican University Saturday (Feb. 21), falling to the Panthers 77-45 in Painesville.
The teams went back-and-forth to start the game, with the Storm owning a 7-6 lead at the 15 minute mark. The Panthers went on an 8-0 run before Morgan Berry (Toledo, Ohio/Napoleon/Dayton) halted the run with a lay-up. However, Ohio Dominican answered with a 17-2 run over the next several minutes. After a media timeout, the Storm went on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 15 but the Panthers took a 38-18 lead into the half.
The Storm struck first in the second half but the Panthers went on an 8-3 run and lead 48-26 at the 15 minute mark of the half. The Panthers continued to pull ahead but Jackie Murray (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) hit three three-pointers in the first 10 minutes of the second half to keep the Storm alive. However, in the final ten minutes of play, the Panthers led by as much as 34 to seal the win.
Berry led the Storm with 10 points, hitting five-of-eight shots. Murray added nine points in addition to two rebounds and two assists. Shagovac added six points and three assists. Kaeding Skelton (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) had five points, hitting two-of-three shots. Carlye Garst (Salem, Va./Salem) and Irish had four points and three rebounds apiece. Sami Narducci (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) had three points and three rebounds. Christine Dawson (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) had a team-high five rebounds.
The Storm is back in action next Thursday in their season finale against Ashland University.
