PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's basketball team was victorious today over Ohio Valley, 74-45. With the win the Storm improves to a perfect 2-0 on the season.
The Storm opened the game on a 7-0 run, that was led by Shelby Carpenter (New Lebanon, Ohio / Miami Valley), she had five of the seven points during the Storm run. The run was ended by an Ohio Valley timeout, with 8:19 remaining in the first quarter. The Storm ended the 1st quarter strong and took a 31-13 advantage into the second quarter.
The second quarter was a back and forth battle in which the Storm had a 36-19 lead after the media timeout. The Storm ended the second quarter on a 7-0 run and stretched their lead to 46-23 at the half. Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led the Storm at the half with 12 points on 5-8 shooting from the field. Carpenter led the defense with four steals in the first half.
The Storm maintained their lead and held a 54-30 advantage at the media timeout in the third quarter. The Storm continued to dominate and enter the fourth quarter with a 60-32 advantage.
The fourth quarter was defensive minded and the Storm won by a large margin, with a final score of 74-45.
The Storm was led by Gabor who had a game high 18 points. Carpenter also pitched in with 11 points for the Storm. Caryle Garst (Salem, Va. / Salem) was the leading rebounder for the Lake Erie with six. The Storm shot 39.4% from the field for the game.
Lake Erie will be back in action Tuesday (November 17th) when they travel to take on Ursuline at 7 P.M.
