Storm Opens Season with GLIAC/GMAC Challenge (Preview)

The Lake Erie College women's basketball team will open the 2016-2017 season when they host the GLIAC-GMAC Challenge this weekend.  The Storm will host Malone on Friday (Nov. 11) at 8:00 PM and then they will host Davis & Elkins on Saturday (Nov. 12) at 2:00 PM.

2015-16 Season: Lake Erie finished the 2015-16 season with an 8-20 overall record and a 5-17 GLIAC record. Junior Kayla Gabor (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) led the Storm with over 14 points per game.

Series History: The Storm has faced off with the Malone Pioneers eight times while they were in the GLIAC.  Lake Erie is 2-6 against the Pioneers with the teams splitting last year's matchups. In 2013, Lake Erie faced Davis & Elkins in the GLIAC-GMAC Challenge. The Storm defeated the Senators 98-85.

GLIAC Preseason Poll: The Storm was selected to finish seventh in the GLIAC South as a part of the GLIAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released earlier this month. After the Storm's 5-17 GLIAC run last season, they received six votes, slated to finish behind the Tiffin Dragons. The Ashland Eagles were selected by the coaches to win the South Division while the Lakers of Grand Valley State were picked in the North Division.

Opposition Position: Both teams will be opening the 2016-17 seasons at Lake Erie this weekend. Malone will be opening the season on Friday against the Storm. Davis and Elkins will face Tiffin in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday.

Storm Forecast: The Storm will be traveling to play in the Roberts Wesleyan Tournament next weekend. Lake Erie will face Saint Joseph's and Roberts Wesleyan on the road.
