Storm Fall Short At Saginaw Valley

(UNIVERSITY CENTER, Michigan) – Lake Erie fell in non-conference action to Saginaw Valley State by a score of 64-54 on Thursday evening. The Storm dropped to 0-4 on the young season while the Cardinals improved to 2-1.

The Storm stayed with the hosts for most of the game, but were outscored in each quarter by no more than a few points for the difference.

SVSU started to pull away in the third with a 12-point lead midway through the frame, but the Storm kept chipping away and eventually closed the gap to two thanks to a 15-5 run that stretched into the fourth.

Farrah Benner (Sr., Brunswick, Ohio) sparked the run with a 3-pointer with 4:43 to go in the third with Lauren Flannery (Fr., Hannibal, Ohio) capping it with a layup 2:23 into the fourth. The run was answered by one of the Cardinals, however, as they went rallied for the next 13 points to put the game out of reach.

Josie Chaddock (Sr., Minerva, Ohio) led the Storm with 19 points for game-high honors. She was 6-of-14 from the field with a 3-pointer and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. She added four rebounds and four assists to her line.

A trio of Cardinals scored in double-figures with Aaliah Hill leading the way with 17 points. She was 8-of-11 on the evening.

Lake Erie returns home for its next contest which takes place this Sunday against local rival Gannon. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
