HICKORY, N.C. – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team held a four-goal lead early in the second half but a 10-1 run to close the game by Edinboro University sent the Fighting Scots on to a 16-11 victory over the Storm on a neutral field in Hickory, N.C. on Thursday night (March 10).

The Storm (0-2) led 3-1 five minutes into the contest on a goal by freshman Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and two by sophomore Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt).  Edinboro (1-0) responded with three straight goals to take a 3-4 lead but Howe sandwiched a pair of goals around one by classmate Allison Trombetti (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) to make it a 6-4 game at halftime.

West scored to open the second half and sophomore Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) scored twice to put the Storm up 9-5.  The two teams traded scores and Lake Erie led 10-6 with 17:03 to go.

The Scots went on a 6-0 run in the next ten minutes, including four goals by Victoria Smith.

After Trombetti scored off a feed from Kulda to break the streak and bring the Storm within a goal at 12-11 at 7:33, the Scots held LEC off the scoreboard the rest of the way and padded their advantage with four more goals to seal the win.

Howe led the Storm attack with four goals while Kudla, Trombetti and West all scored twice.

Smith led all players with seven goals while four others scored two goals for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro outshot Lake Erie 44-23, including a 26-9 edge in the second half.

Freshman Emily Rock (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West) made 18 saves in goal for the Storm.

Lake Erie opens the northern portion of its schedule on March 22 at Tiffin University.
