ERIE, PA. – Host Gannon University jumped out to a 10-0 lead en route to a 22-8 victory over the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team on Friday night (March 16) at Gannon University Field.
The Golden Knights (2-3) scored 10 goals before 10 minutes had elapsed in the contest. Junior Meredith Howe (Fayettevill, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored twice to put a halt to the Gannon streak, but led by Kimberly Neagle's four first-half goals , the home team had a 17-4 edge at halftime.
Gannon scored three times to start the second half to push the margin to 20-4.
Howe led all players with five goals on the evening to lead the Storm (3-2), which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Classmate Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and sophomores Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and Michaela Schock (Dover, Delaware/Caesar Rodney) each scored one goal.
Neagle did not score in the second half, but still led the Knights with her four goals. Christie Valentine scored three times and Jess Fugate and Rachel DerCola each had six assists for Gannon. Margaret Maslyn made eight saves in net for the Knights.
After playing two straight on the road, the Storm returns home to face Tiffin University in a nonconference contest on Monday, March 26.
