PAINESVILLE, OHIO – A big run early in the first half put the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team well on its way to an 18-11 nonconference victory Monday night (March 26) over Tiffin University at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

The game was the annual Lax-4-Life game with the teams raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention.

Tiffin's Alexandria Quast scored the game's first goal less than two minutes in, but then Lake Erie (4-2) took control by scoring eight of the next nine goals, including three by junior Meredith Howe (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) and two each from junior Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) and freshman Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) to take an 8-2 lead midway through the first half.

The lead grew to as big as 11-3 with 7:40 to play in the half before Tiffin (1-7) scored two late goals and had the Storm taking an 11-5 lead into the locker room.

Lake Erie extend the lead to 12-5 on junior Kim Dang's (Atlanta, Ga./Jackson) first goal of the season early in the second.  The Dragons scored twice to close within five, but Abu-Kwiek scored two times and sophomore Michaela Schock (Dover, Del./Casear Rodney) scored to make it a 15-7 game.

The Storm's biggest advantage was nine points at 17-8 following goals by Howe and Kudla.  The Dragons scored three goals in less than a minute to close within six at 17-11, but the Storm ran off the final minute before sophomore Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) put in the final tally with five seconds to go.

Four players scored multiple goals to lead a balanced attack for the Storm.  Howe, Kudla and Abu-Kwiek each scored four times while West had three goals and three assists.  Dang finished with three points (1 goal, 3 assists) and junior Brittany Rabuano (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) led all players with three assists.

Sophomore Marie Millard (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) made her first start in goal and earned the win with one save in 30 minutes.  Classmate Emily Rock (Hamilton, Ohio/Lakota West) played the second half and made three saves.

Quast scored five goals for the Dragons while Kalie Weinheimer and Alexis MacMillan each had two.  Jessica Bombard made six saves in net for Tiffin.

With the win, Lake Erie eclipsed its season victories total from last year.
