ROCKVILLE CENTER, N.Y. – Host Molloy College broke open a tie game by scoring eight straight goals en route to an 17-10 East Coast Conference victory over the Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team on Sunday (April 22).
Lake Erie (7-8, 1-6 ECC) led 3-1 less than seven minutes into the game, but the Lions (8-7, 5-1) scored three straight goals to take a 4-3 lead. Junior Julia Kudla (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) found the net to tie the game at 4-4 with 11 minutes left before halftime, but then Molloy scored four times to close out the half and take an 8-4 lead into the locker room.
The Lions continued their run to open the second half, scoring four more times in the first four minutes to take a commanding 12-4 lead. The Storm scored four of the next five goals to close within 13-8, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
Sophomore Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt) scored four goals to lead Lake Erie, while Kudla had three and an assist.
Four different players scored three goals for Molloy, which won its third straight.
Lake Erie will look to snap its two-game losing streak and move back to .500 on Tuesday, April 24, when it hosts Mercyhurst University in a nonconference match.
