Storm Battles Past Urbana for Road Win

URBANA, OHIO—The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team picked up their second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win of the season Friday (April 11), defeating Urbana n University 18-7.

Breana Moser (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna) scored the first goal of the contest, assisted by Ashriel West (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville Dewitt).  After Urbana tied it on a free-position shot, West, Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy Orange) and Delaney Semancik (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) scored three straight for the Storm, with assists from Moser and West.  The teams traded goals the rest of the half, with Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky./Easter) netting two, one assisted by Moser, and Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio) scoring the final goal of the first-half to give the Storm a 7-4 advantage at the break.

Urbana brought the game within one point after scoring the first two goals of the second-half, but the Storm responded with an impressive 8-0 run.  Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta/National Sport Academy) started the run on a free-position shot.  Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) followed Gryba's goal with an unassisted one then assisted Miller on the following goal, her second of the game.  Semancik and Gryba netted their second goals of the game before West notched a pair of goals- one on a free-position and the latter on a pass from Quiggle.  Semancik scored her third goal of the game on a free-position shot to cap off the run.  After Urbana scored, Gryba, West (assisted by Moser) and Semancik added one more goal apiece to seal the win. 

West ended the game with six points on four goals, two assists.  Semancik had four points on four goals while Moser had four points on one goal, three assists.  Gryba , Bohn and Quiggle tallied three points apiece while Bohn and Miller had two each.  In addition to her goal, Abu-Kwiek had four draw controls.   Bohn led the Storm with seven draw controls on the day and West had four in addition to her team-high three groundballs.  Kayla Corey (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) shared the team-high in caused turnovers with West with two.

Amanda Getto (Medina, Ohio/Medina) picked up the win in net, making four saves.  Katie Holden (Whitby, Ont./Anderson C.V.I.) split time in net, making seven saves.

The Storm owned a 19-8 advantage on draw controls and outshot Urbana 41-27. 

The Storm is back at home Sunday (April 13) for a GLIAC match-up with Alderson-Broaddus University.
