Storm Falls to Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team was defeated today (April 4th) by Findlay, 15-13.  With the loss the Storm is 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference and with the win Findlay is 4-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Findlay opened the game with four straight goals before the Storm answered back with two of their own.  Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) got the Storm on the scoreboard off of an assist by Taylor Izzo (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier), and less than a minute later Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) found the back of the net to make the score 4-2 in favor of Findlay.  Both teams traded goals with Crawford scoring her second of the game with 20 minutes left in the first half, to make the score 5-3 in favor of Findlay.  Findlay scored five goals and took a 10-3 advantage with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Crawford scored her third goal of the game off of an assist by Izzo, and the Storm cut the Findlay lead to 10-4.  The Storm scored again when Cecilla Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored from a free shot position, to make the score 10-5 in favor of Findlay.  After a Findlay goal, the Storm responded when Izzo scored from a free position shot.  Findlay entered intermission with an 11-6 advantage.    

The Storm opened the second half with back to back goals by Mathis and Izzo to cut the lead to 11-8.  Findlay answered back with two goals of their own to make the score 13-8, in favor of Findlay. Lake Erie scored back to back goals, Samantha Gyrba (Okotoks, Alberta / National Sport Academy) scored both and each goal was unassisted, to make the score 13-10 in favor of Findlay. Findlay scored a goal before the Storm scored back to back goals.  Crawford scored off of an assist by Izzo and Gryba scored her third of the game to make the score, 14-12 in favor of Findlay.  After a goal by Findlay, Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) found the back of the net off of an assist by Mathis.  The Storm was unable to complete the comeback, and fell to Findlay, 15-13.    

In net for the Storm was Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario / Anderson C.V.I.) she faced 27 shots, 22 of which were on goal, made seven saves.

Lake Erie will be back in action Friday (April 10th) when they travel to take on McKendree at 2 P.M.
