Storm Defeats Wheeling Jesuit, 14-13

WHEELING, W VA. – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team defeated Wheeling Jesuit today (April 15th), 14-13. With the win the Storm is 5-6 overall and with the loss the Cardinals are 4-7 overall. 

Lake Erie opened the game with four straight goals.  The goals were scored by Taylor Izzo (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier), Samantha Gryba (Okotoks, Alberta / National Sport Academy), Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado), and Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East).  Izzo had an assist on the goal by Andersen, and Gryba assisted Crawford.  Wheeling Jesuit answered with four straight goals of their own.  The teams traded goals as Crawford scored two goals for the Storm, and the game remained tied at 6 goals apiece, with 14 minutes to play in the first half.  Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) and Crawford scored back to back goals to give the Storm an 8-6 advantage; both goals were assisted by Izzo.  The Cardinals answered with a goal.  The Storm scored when Crawford found the back of the net, and entered the intermission with a 9-7 lead. 

Wheeling Jesuit scored back to back goals to open the half and tie the game at nine goals apiece.  Lake Erie responded when Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored an unassisted goal.  The Storm and Cardinals continued to trade goals with Mathis scoring for the Storm off of an assist by Gryba.  Wheeling Jesuit scored and the Storm responded when Mathis scored an unassisted goal, to make the score 12-12.  The Storm fell behind 13-12 but scored the final two goals of the game to win.  Quiggle and Cecilla Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored, and Spin had the game winning goal.    

In the net for the Storm was Katie Holden (Whitby, Ontario / Anderson C.V.I.) she faced 29 shots, 19 of which were on goal, and made six saves. 

Lake Erie will be back in action Friday (April 17th) when they host Walsh at 6 P.M.
