FINDLAY, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Findlay 15-6 today (March 23) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.
The Oilers jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first three goals of the game. The Storm answered with a goal when Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy Orange) scored an unassisted goal for the Storm. The Oilers continued their strong play with five straight goals to give the Oilers an 8-1 advantage with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. The Storm halted the Oilers momentum with an unassisted goal by Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio / Olentangy) with less than five minutes remaining in the half. The Oilers scored again before the half, and the Storm entered the intermission trailing the Oilers.
The Storm came out of the locker room ready to fight as Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) opened the second half scoring off of an assist by Quiggle. The Oilers responded with two goals in a five minute span. The Storm continued to battle as Crawford scored her second goal of the game with 19 minutes remaining in the game. After a pair of goals by the Oilers, the Storm answered when Breana Moser (Gahanna, Ohio / Gahanna) scored for the Storm with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. The Storm scored a second straight goal when Moser scored her second goal. The Oilers scored two goals before the end of the game to win 15-6.
The Storm was led by Moser as she had two goals, two groundballs and two draw controls. Crawford also had two goals in the game for the Storm. Quiggle added a goal, a team high four groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Emma Miller (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) added a strong defensive effort as she had two caused turnovers and two groundballs for the Storm.
Lake Erie will return to the field Saturday (March 26th) when they travel to take on Tiffin at 1 P.M.
