PAINESVILLE, Ohio— The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team fell in nonconference action Tuesday (March 29) against Slippery Rock University, 15-8.
The Rock got off to fast start, taking a 7-0 lead 15 minutes in. However, the Storm buckled down and got back in the game.
Hana Abu-Kwiek (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy) scored the Storm's first goal unassisted. Two minutes later, Ceclia Spin (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) got on the board with a free position shot. In the final minutes of the half, Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post East) scored the third goal for the Storm off a pass from Mallory Quiggle (Lewis Center, Ohio/Olentangy).
The Storm's momentum carried over to the second half. Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored to cut the lead to three. Crawford followed up with her second goal, assisted by Kaci Asper (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse/Onondaga), cutting the lead to two. The Rock got back on the board to increase the lead to three after the Storm shut them out for nearly 20 minutes. Kayla Bohn (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) brought the lead back down to two with a free position goal ten minutes into the half. However, the Rock scored six straight goals to regain control.
Cecelia Spin broke the run with her second goal of the game. After a Rock goal, Crawford scored her third goal of the game off an assist by Abu-Kwiek in the final minute but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Crawford led the Storm with three goals while Cecelia Spin scored twice. Abu-Kwiek tallied two points with a goal and an assist. Bohn and Anna Spin had a goal while Quiggle had an assist.
Anna Spin also had four groundballs while Abu-Kwiek had three. Crawford caused two turnovers.
The Storm is back in action Friday (April 1) against the University of Indianapolis.
