TIFFIN, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team opened the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament with a matchup with the Tiffin Dragons on Tuesday (May 2) night.
The Dragons defeated the Storm 17-7 in the quarterfinal.
The Dragons opened the scoring with two goals in the first six minutes of the first half. Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) cut the lead in half with a free position goal for the Storm. Tiffin scored five consecutive goals in an eight minute period as the Dragons held a 7-1 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half. Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) broke the Dragons' run with a goal, as the Storm pulled within five with 11 minutes left in the half. Tiffin responded with a tally four minutes later. With 4:04 left in the half, Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) scored on an assist from Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) as the Storm made the score 8-3. Tiffin led 8-3 over Lake Erie at the half.
Tiffin scored a goal three minutes into the second half as the Dragons took a 9-3 lead over the Storm. Three minutes later, C. Spin converted her second free position shot of the night for the Storm. Over the next nine minutes, Tiffin scored five straight goals. C. Spin scored her third goal of the game with less than nine minutes left in the game. Tiffin scored a minute later before Mathis found the back of the net on a free position shot with less than two minutes remaining. Less than a minute later, Crawford scored her second goal of the game, a free position goal for the Storm. Tiffin scored two goals in the final minute for the final score of 17-7.
C. Spin led the Storm with three goals in the game along with one groundball. Crawford scored two goals while she grabbed two groundballs and won two draw controls. Mathis added two goals and a draw control.
The Storm finished the season with a 10-5 record, the third winning season in the program's history.
