Women's Lacrosse Hosts Wheeling Jesuit, Travels to Tiffin (Preview)

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team will continue the first week of the 2018 season with a home matchup against the Wheeling Jesuit University Cardinals on Thursday (March 8) at 7:00 PM. Following the Cardinals, the Storm will travel to Tiffin University on Sunday (March 11) at 12:00 PM.

Storm Report: Lake Erie is 0-1 this season following an 18-13 loss to Slippery Rock on Sunday (March 4). Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) led the Storm with four goals scored while Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) added three goals and two assists. Four other players scored goals for Lake Erie, including Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) and Riley Heffron (Livermore, Ca. / Granada) with two each.

Opposition Position: The Cardinals come to Painesville with a 1-5 overall record. Wheeling Jesuit dropped a road contest, 20-9 at Lock Haven, on Tuesday (March 6). Paige Orbell is the leading scorer with 19 goals for the Cardinals this season. Tiffin is 1-2 so far this season through three games. The Dragons fell 16-3 at West Chester last week. Tiffin has scored 19 goals this season in the three games. Elle Hamilton leads the Dragons with seven goals.

Series History: Overall, the Storm and the Cardinals have met on the field five times. Lake Erie holds a 5-0 series advantage over Wheeling Jesuit. The Storm defeated the Cardinals 16-6 last season on the road. Lake Erie has faced Tiffin twelve times in the series history. The Dragons have won eight of the twelve matchups as Tiffin swept both matchups in 2017. Lake Erie fell 11-9 in the regular season matchup. The two teams met in the GLIAC Quarterfinals last season with the Dragons winning 17-7.

Storm Forecast: The Storm will host the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley in their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest on Thursday (March 15) at 7:00 PM.
