Big First Half Pushes Storm's Streak to Eight

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team improved to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference with a 17-5 win over the Ursuline College Arrows on Wednesday (April 11) night at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

Lake Erie scored ten goals in the first 14 minutes of the game.  Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored three of the first four goals, all unassisted. Riley Heffron (Livermore, Ca. / Granada) found the back of the net twice, with one goal off an assist from Meagan Maxwell (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg). Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) added two goals, including one with a feed from Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado). Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored two goals, both unassisted along with one goal from Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). The Arrows got on the board with a goal with 12 minutes left in the first half. A. Spin scored with six minutes remaining and Maxwell closed the half with a goal off of an assist from Mathis four minutes later. The Storm led the Arrows 12-1 at the intermission.

After two minutes of scoreless action at the start of the second half, Lake Erie scored two goals in a minute span. Heffron scored her second goal of the night and then she assisted on Maxwell's second goal of the game. Ursuline scored three straight goals over the next ten minutes, closing the gap to 14-4. Crawford converted a free position shot with 15 minutes left to stop the Arrows run. After an Ursuline goal, A. Spin and Mathis closed the scoring for the game with unassisted goals in the last eight minutes. Lake Erie defeated Ursuline 17-5.

A. Spin led the Storm with five goals and three groundballs along with three draw controls. Crawford, Heffron, and Mathis all scored three goals each in the game. Crawford controlled two draws while Heffron grabbed three groundballs, two draw controls, and caused two turnovers. Mathis led the Storm with five draw controls. Maxwell finished with two goals and three groundballs. Chloe Nottingham (New Westminster, B.C. / New Westminster Secondary) had three groundballs. C. Spin had three draw controls and three groundballs along with her one goal.

Lake Erie will host Findlay in a key Great Midwest matchup on Friday (April 13) night at the Britt. The game will start at 6:30 PM.
