Storm Completes Perfect G-MAC Regular Season

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team concluded the 2018 regular season with Senior Day on Saturday (April 28) afternoon.

The Storm rattled off 12 consecutive goals to defeat the Walsh Cavaliers 18-6 for their 14th straight win. Lake Erie finished the regular season 14-2 and 12-0 in the G-MAC, both program-highs.

Walsh opened the scoring with a goal ninety seconds in, taking a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Anastasia Crawford (Corning, N.Y. / Corning Painted Post East) tied the game at one. Just seconds later, Haley Andersen (Henderson, Nev. / Coronado) gave the Storm a 2-1 lead off an assist from Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn). Two minutes later, Walsh took a 3-2 advantage with two consecutive goals. Lake Erie tied the game at three with 15:27 left as Taylor Mathis (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) converted a free-position shot. After a seven minute span, A. Spin made two straight free position shots as Lake Erie led 5-3 with 6:29 left in the first half. With under three minutes, Meagan Maxwell (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg) scored a goal on an A. Spin assist and Cecilia Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) scored from Maxwell just seconds apart. Lake Erie led 7-3 at the half.

Lake Erie scored the final five goals in the first half and scored the first seven goals of the second half in the first ten minutes. Crawford scored two goals, including one assisted by Mathis. Mathis scored twice along with her one assist. A. Spin, C. Spin and Andersen each scored once as Lake Erie led 14-3 with 19:38 to go. After an eight minute period, Walsh scored two straight goals, cutting the Storm's lead to 14-5. One minute later, Crawford scored from A. Spin as Lake Erie began a four goal run. Mathis and A. Spin scored on free position shots while Andersen found the net from a Crawford pass. Walsh closed the scoring with a goal in the final two minutes. Lake Erie completed the perfect G-MAC season with an 18-5 win.

Mathis scored five points (four goals and one assist) with three groundballs and nine draw controls. Crawford added a total of five points with four goals and one assist along with three groundballs. A. Spin finished with six points, three goals and three assists with five groundballs and six draw controls. Andersen scored three goals and C. Spin added three goals, three groundballs and four draw controls. Maxwell had three points, four groundballs and two caused turnovers.

The Storm will play the fourth seed in the opening game of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, held at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Thursday (May 3).
