PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College women's lacrosse team will begin the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday (May 3) with a semi-final matchup with the Ursuline College Arrows. The Storm will battle the Arrows at 10:30 AM in the first semifinal.
"Ursuline is a fast team and we need to defend them well," said Storm head coach Mallory Ferrandiz. "Our main focus is to be the team we've been all year. This is a single elimination tournament, any team is as dangerous as the next, we are well prepared to keep moving forward and improving our game."
Storm Report: Lake Erie enters the tournament as the number one overall seed following the program's first regular season conference title. The Storm finished the regular season with a 14-2 overall record and a 12-0 G-MAC record. Lake Erie has won 14 straight games after starting the season 0-2. In the season finale, Lake Erie defeated Walsh 18-6 on Senior Day. Anna Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) finished as the team leader in goals (62), assists (34) and points (96).
Opposition Position: Ursuline finished the regular season with a 7-10 overall record and a 5-7 conference record. The Arrows made the tournament on a coin flip between them and Alderson Broaddus, who finished with identical 5-7 conference records. Cydney Bartlett led the Arrows with 59 goals and 75 points.
Series History: Lake Erie is 6-0 against the Arrows in the series history. The Storm defeated the Arrows 17-5 and 19-5 in the two matchups this season.
Forecast: The winner of the Lake Erie-Ursuline semifinal will play the winner of the Findlay-Walsh semifinal on Saturday (May 5) at 5:30 PM.
