(INDIANAPOLIS) – Riley Heffron has been named this week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week after an incredible game against the University of Charleston on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to her efforts, the Storm were able to rage back from a four-goal deficit and win 12-11.
The final goal came from the Livermore, Calif., native who found the back of the net after an assist from Meagan Maxwell. It was her fourth of the day after she picked up an increased roll in the attack after Anna Spin went out with a second yellow card.
But Heffron's defense as a midfielder was just as important in the comeback. The 2018 G-MAC Freshman of the Year came up with four draw controls, caused two turnovers, and picked up two ground balls to help give the Storm possession to set up the attack.
Today's contest at Slippery Rock was postponed, but Lake Erie will be back in action on Thursday when the Storm host Northern Michigan. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
