Lake Erie College was competitive in all three matches but went 0-3 in its first duals in team history in a quad hosted by York (Pa.) College.
The Storm fell to York, 23-15, Messiah, 24-14 and Waynesburg, 24-21.
"We were missing some wrestlers and it hurt us," said Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "Everyone that was out there got after it and I was pleased with the efforts."
The top wrestler on the day was freshman Josh Linden (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights). Linden won all three matches without surrendering a point, with a pin, 16-0 tech fall and 11-0 major decision at 174-lbs.
It was in the middle weight classes where Lake Erie had the most success on the day. Freshmen Kevin Brunner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) and Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) each went 2-1 while Sam Delpra (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga), Chris Kelly (North Olmsted/North Olmsted), Josh Etze (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward)l all picked up victories.
Andrew Gasber (Madison, Ohio/Madison) also picked up two wins on the day for the Storm. His first win was an exhibition against York College where he earned a major decision. During the Messiah match he got the start at 165 and earned an 18-5 major decision.
The most exciting of the three matches was against Waynesburg, as the Storm led 21-18 going into the final match before senior Alex Palmer (Franklinville, N.Y./Franklinvlle Central) got pinned in the heavyweight class.
"Alex is filling in for us at heavyweight with very little practice," said Hoogenboom. "He came out and battled hard and gave us a chance."
The Storm is idel over the Thanksgiving holiday, but is back in action on December 4 with their first home match against Seton Hill University.
