Wrestling Eighth in Midwest as Two Earn Individual Rank

The Lake Erie College wrestling team moved up four spots in the Midwest regional rankings to eighth place following its showing at the Midwest Classic on Dec. 18-19.

The Storm also placed two individuals in the top six regional rankings per weight class.  Junior Sam Delpra (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) is slotted fourth at 141-lbs and freshman Josh Linden (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) earned the fifth spot at 174-lbs.  Previously, Linden ranked sixth and Delpra was unranked.

"We are very excited to make such a big jump in the rankings," said Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom. "Going into Indianapolis (Midwest Classic), we were short-handed yet were able to place ahead of several teams ranked ahead of us going in."

Lake Erie finished 15th as a team in the Midwest Classic with 37.5 points despite having only eight wrestlers participate. Delpra and Linden were the Green and White's top finishers at the tournament with third and fourth place in their respective weight classes.  Delpra tops the Storm with a 13-5 record this season with Linden narrowly behind at 12-6.

The Storm is in action next on Friday night (Jan. 7) when they travel to take on Pitt Johnstown, ranked ninth nationally, at 7:00 p.m.
