PAINESVILLE, OHIO – After four consecutive polls sitting just outside the Top 20, the Lake Erie College wrestling team has moved up to 19th nationally in the latest Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll released Thursday (Feb. 28).

The Storm had been listed in one of the first two spots among others receiving votes in every poll since Jan. 3.  Lake Erie finally cracked the Top 20 after a strong fourth-place showing at the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 Championships Feb. 23-24 at Ashland University.

Lake Erie posted an 11-6 dual meet record during the season, with three victories over ranked teams.

The poll is the final poll in advance of the NCAA Division II Championships next week in Birmingham, Ala.  The Storm will be represented at the national meet March 8-9 by sophomores Ian Ross (Newark, N.Y./Newark) and Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and junior Zak Vargo (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy).

In 2012, Lake Erie finished 29th at the NCAA Championships in Pueblo, Colo.  Sophomore Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) finished sixth at 165 pounds to earn All-American honors at that meet.
