EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Lake Erie College wrestling team opened their 2014-15 season at the Michigan State Open Sunday (Nov. 2) in East Lansing, Michigan.
The tournament was split into a freshman/sophomore division and an open division. It featured wrestlers from some of the top Division I and II schools in the country including Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan State, Indiana, Central and Eastern Michigan, Purdue, Notre Dame College, Tiffin and Findlay amongst others.
197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord Township, Ohio/Riverside), one of the nation's leaders in pin falls last year, picked up where he left off last season in the freshman/sophomore bracket. Rosborough picked up pins over Regis Durbin of Northwestern and Garrett Linton of Notre Dame College in the opening two rounds. In his quarterfinal match, he defeated Gabriel Dzuro of Ohio University 7-1. Rosborough was unable to overcome Andre Lee of Illinois in the semifinals. In the third place match, Rosborough pinned Lee's teammate, Colton Emmerich in just thirty seconds.
141-pounder Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) advanced to round two of the freshman/sophomore bracket after an opponent's injury. He then defeated Chance Driscoll of Kent State University 9-7 in the second round before dispatchingCody LeCount of Central Michigan University in the quarterfinals, 5-3. In the semifinals, Boggs fell to Coby Fehr of Notre Dame but was able to capture third place due to injury default.
184-pounder Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) fell in round two after a bye in round one. In the consolation bracket, he pinned Zach Wheeler of Harper before defeating Kyle Conel of Kent State. In the consolation semifinals, he fell to Derek Hillman of Eastern Michigan but came away in eighth place.
133-pounder Ross Bahro (Keego Harbor, Mich./West Bloomfield), 157-pounder Justin Smith (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest), 174-pounder Alec Mills (Columbus, Ohio/Miffin) and 157-pounder Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) picked up two wins apiece in the freshman/sophomore bracket while 141-pounder Connor Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) 149-pounder Chayse Csongedi (Parma, Ohio/Parma), 174-pounder Nicholas Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), 184-pounder Douglas Hicks (Van Wert, Ohio/Lincolnview) and heavyweight Camerin Adkins (El Mirage, Az./Dysart ) picked up a win in the freshman/sophomore bracket.
In the open bracket, 174-pounder Dylan Zivcic (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor/Lakeland) picked up wins over Ernest Battaglia of Michigan and Drew Barnes of Michigan State before bowing out to injury. 125-pounder Ian Ross (Newark, N.Y./Newark) picked up wins over Andy Lenz of Saint Catherine and Cory Lester of Michigan but did not place.
