TIFFIN, Ohio—The eighth-ranked Lake Erie College wrestling team finished with a 4-1 record at the Super Region-II Duals hosted by Tiffin University Saturday (Jan. 31).
The Storm defeated 20th-ranked University of North Carolina-Pembroke 32-10 in their opening dual before falling to Coker College, 18-13, in their second dual. The Storm finished the day with wins over Belmont Abbey College (25-15), the University of Indianapolis (26-16) and Limestone College (27-26).
Zak Vargo (Stow, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) went 2-1 at the event, picking up his 100th career win in the process.
Zev Green (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) finished the day with a 4-0 record at 184-pounds. He defeated the fourth- and fifth-ranked wrestlers in the region. Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) went 3-1 at 141-pounds, picking up a win over the second-ranked wrestler in the region. Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) went 3-0 wrestling up a class at 197-poundds, including a victory over 2013 national qualifier Justin Tribble of Limestone. Matt Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) also finished the day at 3-0, defeating the third-ranked wrestler in the region. Alec Mills (Columbus, Ohio/Mifflin), Evan Rosborough (Concord Twp., Ohio/Riverside), Ian Ross (Newark, N.Y/Newark), Forrest Glogouski (New Paris, Ind./Fairfield), Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) and Conner Nemec (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) had two wins apiece.
The Storm is back in action Wednesday (Feb. 4) for their final home dual of the season against Gannon University.
