PAINESVILLE, Ohio- After a two year hiatus, the Lake Erie College wrestling team will be hosting the Storm Open on Saturday (Dec. 3) at the Osborne Center.
The 4th Annual Storm Open will take place on Saturday, providing the Storm team to compete during the gap in their schedule before their next competition.
Storm Head Coach Kevin Hoogenboom spoke about the field for this year's event. "This years field filled early and the competition will be very good across all weight classes. We will have over 200 wrestlers competing which will be our largest open that we have hosted."
"Its always nice to sleep in your own bed and not have to travel for competition," said Hoogenboom. "That will be a luxury for our wrestlers this week, but the competition will be at a very high level. We have a good mix of D1 schools that are sending wrestlers and strong D2 schools.
The field will be a combination of some local Division I schools along with some familiar Division II and III teams.
The list of schools participating includes Ohio State, Kent State, Ohio University, Virginia Tech, American University, Cleveland State, Mercyhurst University, Gannon, Lake Erie, Davenport University, Notre Dame College, Wheeling Jesuit, Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace, and the University of Findlay.
The Storm team competed last at the Findlay Open with seven wrestlers placing in the top eight across many weight classes.
"Our team is wrestling well right now. The wrestlers are really absorbing the things we have been talking about in practice. We have seen substantial improvement from many of our guys. This weekend is another opportunity for us to compete and improve, and we are looking forward to the challenge."
The Storm Open will begin at 9:30 AM at the Jerome T. Osborne Family Athletic and Wellness Center.
