PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College wrestling team makes the trip to Indianapolis, Indiana this weekend for the Super Region 2 Championships. The regional championships are being held Friday (Feb. 24) and Saturday (Feb. 25).
There are 14 teams competing this weekend, with 11 of them currently ranked or receiving votes in the national rankings.
Storm Report: The Storm concluded the dual schedule with a matchup with Gannon University last week. In the dual finale, Lake Erie fell to the Golden Knights on the fourth tie-breaker criteria after the match ended in a 22-22 tie.
All-GLIAC Honors: Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC at 125 pounds. Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) was named Second Team All-GLIAC at 184 pounds.
Individual Rankings: In the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll released on Monday (Feb. 20), four Storm wrestlers were nationally ranked. At 125 pounds, Glogouski is ranked 12th nationally and third in the region. At 149 pounds, Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio / Riverside) ranked second regionally and nationally. At 165 pounds, Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) is slotted first in the region and seventh nationally. Hughes is ranked second regionally and 11th nationally. There are ten wrestlers ranked in the region.
Team Rankings: In the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll released on Monday (Feb. 20), the Storm is ranked 17th in the country, tied with Colorado Mesa.
Storm Forecast: Wrestlers that place in the top four will compete at the NCAA Division II Championships in Birmingham, Alabama March 10th-11th.
