Seven Advance to Day Two of Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Lake Erie College wrestling team opened the 2017 Super Region 2 Championships in a big way on Friday (Feb. 24) as seven wrestlers advanced to the second day of the competition. Six wrestlers will wrestle in the semifinals on Saturday (Feb. 25).

11th-ranked Blake Glogouski (New Paris, Ind. / Fairfield) received a bye to the quarterfinals at 125 pounds, where matched up with Ashland's Sebastian Vidika. Glogouski, the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, punched his ticket to the semifinals with a 10-1 major decision. He will wrestle Newberry's Trung Duong in the semis.

Second-ranked Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio / Riverside) also got a bye to the quarterfinals in the 149 pound weight class. Boggs defeated Austin Palmer of Newberry College with a 10-6 decision. Boggs will match up with third-ranked Brent Fickel of Ashland in the semifinals.

157-pounder Christian Baughman (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) battled back in his first match to defeat 11th-ranked Greg Hillard (Belmont Abbey) with a pin in the final 30 seconds of the match. In the quarterfinal, Baughman advanced to the semifinals with an 11-6 decision over Limestone's DeAndre' Johnson. Baughman's semifinal opponent will be tenth-ranked Heath Lange from Indianapolis.

7th-ranked Nick Vandermeer (Clarkston, Mich. / Clarkston) advanced to the 165 pound semifinals with two technical falls on Friday. Vandermeer defeated King's Cory Collins with an 18-0 technical fall in the first round. Facing Newberry's Nick Young in the quarterfinals, Vandermeer dispatched Young with a 16-0 technical fall. In the semifinals, Vandermeer will matchup with Bret Romanzak of Ashland.

11th-ranked Tyler Hughes (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) went 2-0 to move into the semifinals. Hughes defeated Bellarmine's Ci'Vaughn Green with a fall 3:25 into the match. Hughes defeated his second round opponent, Wisconsin-Parkside's Josh Anthony with an 8-2 decision. He will face UNC Pembroke's Mikey Thomas in the semis.

197-pounder Evan Rosborough (Concord Township, Ohio / Riverside) opened the tournament with a 17-0 technical fall over Belmont Abbey's Brian Girard. In the quarterfinals, he defeated tenth-ranked Kevin Christman from Tiffin with a 2-0 decision. Rosborough will face fourth-ranked Matt Rudy from Limestone in the semifinals.

Heavyweight Brandon Houle (Sparta, Mich. / Rockford / Hope) battled back from a loss to advance to day two of the tournament. Houle fell to Wisconsin-Parkside's Matt Halverson by fall in the first round. After receiving a bye in the consolation bracket, Houle remained alive with a 14-3 major decision over Belmont Abbey's Chass Delgado. In the next consolation round, Houle will face Newberry's Patton Gossett.

133-pounder Andrew Lieb (Pataskala, Ohio / Watkins) and 141-pounder Zach Ruggles (Marietta, N.Y. / Marcellus) each went 1-2 in the tournament.

The second day of the tournament takes place Saturday, with the semifinals along with third and fourth consolation rounds starting at 11:00 AM.
