BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Nick Boggs (Concord, Ohio / Riverside) became the seventh All-American in school history as Boggs wrestled his way to a fifth-place finish in the 149-pound weight class at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships on Saturday (March 11) at the Crossplex.
Boggs went 2-1 on the day through the consolation bracket, finishing with a record of 4-2 for the weekend.
In his first match of the day, Boggs defeated Jacob Gerken from Colorado Mines by a 7-4 decision. With a chance for the third place match on the line, Boggs went up against #1 Nic Goebel of Findlay. Boggs attempted a late comeback in the final seconds but it was not enough as Goebel prevailed in a 6-4 decision. In the fifth place match, Boggs was victorious against #4 Michael Screptock (Tiffin). Boggs defeated Screptock with a 3-2 decision.
The junior finished the season with a record of 30-10 overall as the third-ranked wrestler at 149-pounds.
As a team, Lake Erie totaled 12.5 points as they were tied for 28th place out of 44 teams.
